Core descriptive data — geolocation, reverse + forward DNS, ASN and org name, and CIDR — is free on the basic endpoint (1,000/day with no account, 10,000/day with a free account key, no daily cap with a paid key). Paid tiers add /24 neighbors and BGP context; the metered /ext/lookup endpoint adds higher volume plus the threat layer (proxy / VPN / datacenter / Tor classification and trust scores) and live BGP.
Basic lookups are unlimited with a paid key, within your plan's limit on concurrent (simultaneous, in-flight) requests and the per-minute limit on your key. Keyless lookups are capped at 60 requests/min and 1,000 a day per IP; a free account key at 120 requests/min, 10,000 a day and 3 at a time. Going over returns 429 — retry as soon as an earlier request completes, or after 00:00 UTC for a daily limit.
Planned, not yet available on any plan: organization/ASN enrichment (PeeringDB, Wikidata), bulk lookups, WHOIS/RDAP through the API and dataset snapshots. They will appear here when they ship.
Pricing FAQ
Is there really a free plan?
Yes. The core descriptive IP data — owner, ASN, org name, country, region and city geolocation, reverse + forward DNS, and CIDR for any IP — is free on every plan. Without an account you get 1,000 lookups a day, keyless, over plain HTTP. A free account adds your own API key with 10,000 lookups a day. Paid tiers add /24 neighbors, BGP context, higher enriched volume and the threat layer on the /ext/lookup endpoint — that is where the proxy and VPN detection lives: residential proxies, mobile / cellular (cellphone) proxies, datacenter & hosting proxies, VPN endpoints and Tor exit nodes, plus botnet and compromised-host (including IoT) reputation flags, trust scores and live BGP. That classification is a heuristic — a signal, not a definitive verdict.
Do I need a credit card for the free plan?
No. Browsing needs nothing at all, and the free account signs in with a one-time email code or link, or with Google — no card, ever. A card is only required for paid plans once billing goes live.
What happens if I exceed my monthly enriched limit?
Only the enriched /ext/lookup endpoint is metered — basic lookups stay unlimited on paid plans. If you pass your monthly enriched quota, requests are rate-limited rather than billed by surprise, so you will not get an unexpected invoice. If you regularly need more, the next tier up is usually the cheaper option, and Enterprise offers custom volume.
Can I cancel or change plans anytime?
Yes. Plans are month-to-month (or annual if you choose it) with no lock-in — upgrade, downgrade or cancel whenever you like. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period.
How does annual billing save money?
Annual plans are billed for 10 months instead of 12 — two months free, about 17% off. For example Pro is $39/mo monthly, or $390/yr ($32.50/mo) on annual billing.
When can I actually subscribe?
Paid plans are not on sale yet: self-serve checkout is in development, and every purchase button will switch on together at launch. Add your email on the developers page and we will notify you the day it opens. Until then, WorldIP API keys are in beta and come free with an issued.live Plus or Pro subscription — see worldip.io/developers#beta-keys.
Do the APIs support IPv6?
Yes. The free endpoint (worldip.io/{ipv6}) returns geolocation (country, plus region and city where available), reverse DNS from our own scans, ASN, org name and CIDR. The enriched /api/v1/ext/lookup/{ipv6} adds org category and hosting/datacenter classification, IPv6 blocklists and iCloud Private Relay detection, on the same plans, quotas and limits as IPv4. VPN and proxy exit detection, trust score, live BGP and the hosted-domain count are IPv4-only.
