Scanner v4 Is Live: Full IPv4 Reverse-DNS Coverage in Under 24 Hours

We've rolled out Scanner v4, the next generation of the distributed reverse-DNS scanning architecture behind WorldIP.io. The short version: our fleet can now complete a full sweep of the entire routable IPv4 address space in under 24 hours — a significant step up in how quickly the data behind the site refreshes.

Why it matters

Reverse-DNS records are constantly in motion as address space is reassigned, hosts come and go, and networks rename their infrastructure. The faster we can revisit an address, the more closely our records track reality. With v4, the time between full sweeps drops sharply — which means the rDNS, FCrDNS and per-network data across WorldIP.io is fresher and more accurate, and newly published records surface sooner.

What changed

v4 is a ground-up redesign of how scanning work is distributed across our globally distributed fleet of regional nodes. Each node resolves its slice of the address space from a nearby vantage point, while a smarter coordination layer keeps that effort de-duplicated and continuously balanced — so the whole address space is covered in parallel, without any one node doing more than its share. We've carried forward the adaptive, self-tuning behavior of earlier generations and rebuilt the architecture around it.

What you'll notice

Mostly, you'll notice that the data is fresher. Reverse-DNS changes appear faster, newly allocated space is picked up sooner, and the live views — the scanner page and the infrastructure page — reflect a fleet that's moving through the Internet faster than before. This is live infrastructure and we'll keep tuning it; v4 is the foundation for much of what comes next.
